‘Scoot smart and score big’  Hobart’s best riders in for more than $5,000 of prizes in e-scooter safety blitz

This week, the good guys finish first — as Beam, Australia’s leading shared micro mobility company, launches a nation first blitz to reward safe e-scooter riding.

In conjunction with National Road Safety Week (11-18 May), a Beam-branded on-street team serving as Beam Safe Ambassadors will hit the streets of Hobart rewarding riders who demonstrate safe e-scooter practices.

Safety in Motion’ is Beam’s national road safety initiative, combining on-street rewards, in-app education, social media, and direct rider emails to promote safe riding during the week — and reinforce Beam’s ongoing focus on rider education and responsible travel.

“While we will continue to enforce safe riding behaviour, including through our three-strikes policy, we want to use perks not penalties this week and reward those doing the right thing,”

a Beam spokesperson said.

“At Beam we believe road safety should go beyond the road – and include parking behaviour, helmet use and more. So this is our way to say thanks and put the attention back on the majority of riders who travel safely, instead of focusing on a few bad apples.”

Hobart riders spotted by Beam Safe Ambassadors demonstrating safe behaviour will receive some of the $500.00 in credits up for giveaway. For the chance to receive riders only need to ensure they are demonstrating safe riding by following Beam’s safe ride rules:

  • Always wear a helmet
  • Don’t use a phone while riding
  • Never ride under the influence
  • One rider per vehicle
  • Park respectfully (“park kind”)

Riders not spotted by Beam’s Safety Ambassadors won’t be forgotten, as part of the ‘Safety in Motion’ program they will be able to enter an in-app competition also running until the conclusion of Road Safety week on Sunday 18 May.

For a chance to win, riders simply need to complete the Beam Safety Quiz with the chance to win one of five Safe Beamer passes, valued at approximately $1000.00 each, including 60 free riding minutes per week for six months.

Beam said they expect to see the high standards from Tasmanians with Tassie cities all making the top ten nation-wide for safe e-scooter parking practices.

Beam’s Captur AI photo technology, already implemented across Hobart and Launceston, uses real-time image analysis to monitor and improve e-scooter parking behaviour — helping keep footpaths clear and communities safe.

“Our data reveals that both Launceston and Hobart riders were within the top ten cities nationally for safe parking, out of the 19 cities that Beam operates in."
“That is a safe parking score of 91.1% and 86.3% respectively, according to CapturAI analysis of over 63,000 rides, our new parking technology to correct parking quality in real time,” said the spokesperson.

Beam will also be hosting their flagship Beam Safe Academy sessions across Australia, including in Hobart, providing hands-on education and training to help riders stay confident and safe on the road.

Since launching in Hobart, Beam has supported over 649,063 trips across the city, hitting a total of 1,099,470 kilometres travelled and saving an estimated 225,336kg of CO2.
