Beam has landed in Penang

[18 July 2022] Wherever we operate, we strive to develop our operations in partnership with the local community. Micromobility must serve the needs of not only the people who use our service, but the people who don't. Only then will it have a sustainable future.

This can’t be more true in a space like a university campus where moving from one faculty to another can be financially burdensome if you’re a student as car & fuel prices continue to increase. Not to mention, parking is quite limited in all campuses.

We have partnered Universiti Sains Malaysia on Penang Island, providing our brand of sustainable, affordable transport to students and faculty members.

It's also a Beam Mobility milestone, as our first Malaysian operations in a university and our first footprint into the Northern Region of Peninsular Malaysia. We are working towards expanding our footprint on Penang Island and can’t wait for Beam to be at your doorstep!

Beam in Universiti Sains Malaysia

  • Beam Safe Academy: The Beam Safe Academy is a safety program that incorporates an interactive safety quiz and a launchbriefing guide for new users. Riders are to complete the in-app safety quiz as our means of self-training on safe-riding etiquette.
  • Personal Accident Insurance: Every rider will be covered by Beam’s personal accident insurance.
  • Virtual Docking: Fixed ‘virtual’ parking docks will be seen within the app, with riders directed to appropriate parking spots through a combination of guidance, incentives, and disincentives.

Beam observes many synergies of our offerings with the Penang State Government and city council Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang policy goals towards low carbon cities, green economy and mobility, as well the need to provide more job opportunities for a prosperous community.

  • Low Carbon City: Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang is a Low Carbon City Framework participant for Smart Mobility & Low Carbon City initiatives under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI).
  • Green Mobility: Beam can assist with the Adoption of Electric Vehicle goals Penang has undertaken from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI).
  • Penang 2030: The Penang State Government is focused on the efficiency of public transport by providing low carbon services and commitment to “Low Carbon Urban Development” focusing on greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction. As a zero-emission transport vehicle, Beam can complement the Penang State Government’s ambitions.
  • PLANMalaysia @ Pulau Pinang: Micromobility is quoted as an initiative in the Penang Island Structure Plan 2030 and Penang District Local Plan.

We pledge to support city councils in their journey to being more carbon efficient. Find out more about our environmental credentials here.
