Beam Expands to Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Perak
  • Beam deploys 80 e-scooters around the campus
  • Beam recruits UiTM Perak students to maintain the fleet of e-scooters on campus

[2 December 2022] We’re excited to announce that we have just landed our first footprint in the Northern state of Perak at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Seri Iskandar. It is also UiTM’s first campus of many to utilize e-scooters as a means of transportation around the campus. In officiating our launch, we’ve deployed a total of 80 e-scooters around the campus, spanning approximately 392 acres, with 13 parking spots where students can conveniently find our e-scooters.

This partnership could not have been possible without Urbanice Malaysia - an agency under the Ministry of Housing & Local Governments - who strategically connected us with a common goal to achieve zero emission and low carbon targets. Beam’s shared e-scooters aim to fill in the gaps of first and last-mile connectivity with ease.

"We aim to reduce the consumption of space taken up by cars by having more e-scooters on the ground, and strategically placing them in places that are convenient and accessible. E-scooters take up way less parking space than cars, and that allows us to tackle the issue of limited car-park spaces within the campus." - Justin Tiew, General Manager of Beam Mobility Malaysia.

Whilst combating climate change is at the forefront, Beam’s e-scooter operations does not prioritise solely on the well-being of our earth, but also the livelihood of people. Operating on a campus of that scale, we require regular maintenance of the e-scooters and this is where we give students an opportunity to earn themselves a side gig by signing up to be one of our rangers! They can have full flexibility on when they choose to work as they will be paid on a task basis.

“Recruiting students of UiTM Perak onto our Beam Rangers gig workers program is part of our mission to empower the youth to earn an income whilst gaining a positive work ethic for their future careers. The best part is that they do not have to leave campus grounds to get to their jobs!" - Taty Azman, Head of Public Affairs at Beam Mobility Malaysia.
