Beam Expands to 15 New Areas in Petaling Jaya After A Successful Trial
  • Beam expands to 15 new areas in Petaling Jaya
  • Escooters will be available in key Public Transport facilities in Petaling Jaya

[21 March 2023] Get ready PJ folks! We’re excited to announce that Beam has expanded into 15 new areas in Petaling Jaya (PJ) after seeing positive responses to the use of Beam e-scooters in the city since April 2022. The expansion comes after the successful efforts to improve traffic and lifestyle in the city, which was recognized by the MBPJ council.

Petaling Jaya is known for its advanced transportation facilities and infrastructure, including well-designed bicycle lanes and footpaths that encourage residents to adopt sustainable transportation options. The trial of Beam e-scooters as a mode of transport in PJ has been well-received by residents, who have embraced this convenient and eco-friendly alternative.

From April 2022 to mid-February 2023, over 100,000 trips were taken on an escooter in PJ, covering a whopping distance of over 130,000 KM.  This enabled a total carbon emissions savings of 47,037kg (47.1 tons) by using e-scooters instead of regular cars, with an average travel distance of 1.0km to 1.5km and a travel time of 6 to 8 minutes for each user. Kudos PJ folks!

"We’re pleased to see that residents in PJ are adopting and accepting e-scooters to get around the city. We are thrilled to be expanding our operations and to be bringing our e-scooters to even more neighbourhoods in PJ,"

said Justin Tiew, General Manager of Beam Mobility Malaysia.

"We are committed to making transportation easier and more efficient for everyone in PJ, and we look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on the city."

Our expansion could not have been achieved without strong support from the community and local councilmen representing the interests of PJ residents. It is clear that escooters can be seamlessly integrated into the shared transport ecosystem in PJ, as our operations are a direct answer to resident requests for improved first & last mile connectivity. With continued open-minded collaboration between local authority, community, and operator, Beam hopes to provide its services to a wider group within the Selangor state.

“The transformation of how people move in Malaysia to more sustainable and convenient means will need a larger force than just Beam. The open-minded and collaborative working group that has emerged from the PJ grassroots can be a model of public-private partnership for solutions in other Selangor cities”

said Taty Azman, Head of Government & Public Affairs of Beam Mobility Malaysia.

With our expansion in PJ, we hope that our e-scooters will bring even greater convenience to the residents here to get around the city and reduce their dependence on carbon-intensive vehicles. We’re committed to providing reliable and eco-friendly transportation solutions to congested cities and creating a greener one in the years to come.
